Can you feel the shift? We are in a ‘kairos’ moment – God is bringing a reset. Will you join with us for 15 days of prayer as we pray for our families, communities, cities, our nation & the nations of the earth?
Today’s devotional comes from the powerful (and hilarious!) Surrell Family.
“Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” – Ephesians 5:15-16
Everyday each of us makes choices about how we spend the twenty four hours we are given. Right now the global Church is in an unusual moment – a divine pause from life as normal. From one vantage point we could see the fear, anxiety and frustration that much of the media is trying to surround us with, OR we can take this moment as an opportunity; an opportunity to spend more time with God, more time with our family and more time reflecting on areas where God is asking us to press ‘reset’. How we see things is contingent on one thing – our choice.
For all of us, however long this season may last, the time will come and it will pass. However, this unique pause may never come again. There is an invitation for each of us to make choices in this pause that could set us up to walk in the will of God in new ways in the next season. We have the invitation to reflect, refocus on the vision God has given each of us and to reset our lives.
Nehemiah 8:10 tells us that,“The joy of the Lord is (our) strength”. The root word used in the Hebrew there for joy literally means “to rejoice or make glad”. In fact it’s the same word used in 1 Chronicles 16:27 to describe the “gladness” that is found in the Throne Room when you’re in the very presence of God!
When we choose not to give in to fear, to complain or to waste our time it positions us to choose joy. Every day we have the invitation to come to God, rejoice in who He is, thank Him for the day and to ask Him to strengthen our hearts with joy. Often times in the busyness of the mundane we can forget to ask God to strengthen our hearts with joy. In other words we get so busy doing the things we ‘have’ to do, we forget to choose to see the joy in the opportunities God gives us.
Throughout the day in every decision we make about how to spend our time, we can choose to do things with His joy. And when we do, it ushers not only us but also the people around us into the grace, presence and power of God! So this week as you choose how to spend your time, choose the things that will bring God’s JOY! Not just in this season, but also the things that will set you up to walk in His joy in the season ahead of us!
